Welcome to my blog. I’m an IT & Planning Director for a mid sized Marketing Services company in North West England, although the opinions here are my own and not those of the company! In addition to looking after IT and Planning during the day, I’m a private Helicopter Pilot flying Robinson R44 helicopters whenever I can get a chance.
The rest of the time I’m probably boring someone about either IT, Lean, or Aviation. Sorry if I’ve got you in advance.
Work sees me spend my time “looking after” IT and a work planning team. We’re a “Microsoft Shop” and by being early adopters of Cloud Technology (primarily Microsoft Azure) I’m helping implement an IT transformation agenda which will see us even further ahead of our competition in both capability and profit. Using this alongside the planners who report to me too helps me turn IT & Planning from a cost centre into a contributor to the bottom line. Innovation is future!
Because work is in North West England, and I come from Leamington Spa, in Central England I spend my time flitting between the two and these days I don’t know which to properly refer to as “home!” I’ve a young boy (6 at time of writing), who I enjoy getting up to all sorts of “mischief” with and whose questions always keep me questioning – why do we do things the way we do? Why is that the norm?
Then there is the flying. I qualified as a Private Pilot (Helicopter) in 2007 flying a Robinson R22, after two years of learning alongside my job, with Sloane Helicopters with training split between the beautiful, but cold, Sywell Aerodrome in Northampton and the gorgeous, but hot, Son Bonet in Mallorca. Since then I’ve clocked up nearly 300 hours and only fly the Robinson R44 these days. I’m always looking for an excuse to go flying…
